Chile

The team of coach Fernando Capurro earned the second qualification for a World Championship. And as they had ranked 22nd in 2011, they are hoping for more this time although their group is a really tough one. At the Pan-American Championship Chile first managed a draw with later champion Argentina in the preliminaries, but then conceded a narrow 33:35 defeat by the Brazilians at the semi-final stage. The match for bronze against Uruguay was all the easier, as their trouble-free 37:27 win over Uruguay brought them the bronze medal and the WCh qualification. Pivot Marco Oneto is the top star of the team. He had been detected by scouts from FC Barcelona at an early stage. After several years at Barcelona crowned with the Champions League title in 2011, Oneto is now playing with the colours of Hungarian top club MKB Veszprem. However, Capurro’s system shall be reorganized, due to Oneto’s fibula injury, which avoids him to play the WCh.

Rodrigo Salinas

Following the injury of the pivot and Chilean captain Marco Oneto, the "roja" has been replaced by another star, the young BM Granollers player, Rodrigo Salinas. His left-arm will be the main source of attack for Chile. At just 20 years of age, he certainly doesn't lack character.
